help growing watermelons?

so about 2 weeks ago i bought a jiffy kids garden watermelon thing. the only thing the cup said was to add water and thats all i did and left it on my kitchen windowsil. well i put too much water in it at first and the cup is kinda moldey and i was wondering if i need to put them in something else? the plants started growing (there is three of them each about 2 inches tall) but the leaves are starting to get brownish on the tips of the leaves. is there a way to make them green again and to keep them healthy?

i dont know how to grow anything i tried last year with some other little kit that i bought at target but the bunnys ate them as soon as i put them outside and this year i dont want that to happen. so i was hoping for tips/advise on that as well.

I need to tweak my gym routine. Can anyone with experience help me out?

I consider myself a decently healthy eater and I enjoy working out. I go to the gym 3-5 times a week, depending on the family schedule for the week, and I really enjoy running and free-weights.
Here is my dilemma: I lost 35lbs over the course of 4 months, but I am stuck. I’m not thin, and I don’t think I look fit, either. I have 2 small kids and I have the inevitable mommy body. Flabby middle and all. I weigh 140lbs and I am 5’6″. I don’t have a trainer, and can’t get one, so I am clueless as to what to do at the gym. I have looked online for some info but it mostly seems to be geared towards body-building or fad diet plans. It’s all greek to me and I don’t really know what I’m doing.

My usual gym visit consists of 30-50mins on the treadmill, between 5.5-6.5 mph. Average of 5.8. I can go higher but I’m really aiming for distance not speed. I would like to be able to do a half-marathon one day but it isn’t what I’m training for. I’m working on getting in shape first.
30-45mins of free weights. Usually I alternate and do one day upper body, one day crunches/abs, and one day lower body. I keep my reps to 10 or less and keep my weight high enough that I push for 3 or 4 sets, and I rest for 30-60 second between sets. My weight-lifting exercize repertoire is not impressive, either.

I feel like I eat well. I don’t eat sugar (aside from fruit), red meat or starch. I stick to fresh or lightly steamed veggies and try to eat frequent small meals and snacks.

I know I’m doing something wrong, and I admit that I am totally clueless and just guessing at what I should be doing. Does anyone have any advice or input on what I’m doing wrong and what I could do to rev it up and do things properly? I’m totally open to bulking up a little, while I don’t want to be big. I want to burn fat and be very lean and obviously toned. I’m looking for tips or input from people with experience. Thank you in advance if you decide to tackle my issue! :)

What can I do to lose weight fast after having children?

I just had my second child in June, he is 5 months old.. My first was born last yr in March so he is getting close to 2 years old, I need to find a way to lose weight after all that.. I understand there is like tissue or something now from my stomach stretching..

Before my 1st I weighed 120.. went up to 180.. then by the time he was 6 months I was 135..

Then I got pregnant again.. started at 135.. went up to 176.. Right after birth weighed 154 and stayed there for a while.. then I gained 5 lbs.. So I’m currently 159.. and the gain is not from the holidays :) It happened before that.. I walk regularly.. Like a mile or two at least with the kids in strollers..

Usually just going shopping or walking around the mall for a while each weekend kept my weight maintained.. or at least stopped me from gaining more! I really thought I had lost about 5 pounds but I gained that much.. It is kinda making me down on myself sometimes.. and I’m just not comfortable in my body.. and I hate that!! I don’t look very big, I’m 5’4, it’s just my stomach.. It’s kinda big like flabby wise.. I guess.. That sounds gross but it doesn’t look as bad as it sounds but I DO need to lose about 30 pounds at least!! I don’t think my weight is healthy for me nor do I like the way I look with it…

So any solutions to lose weight quickly?? Please don’t say “diet and exercise” blah blah.. If you know any diet pills that really work I’d be willing to try that as long as my doctor okays it. I can’t join a gym.. don’t got the time for that definitely! I’m just 20.. So I figured losing weight while being young shouldn’t be as hard as if I waited longer.. So just any tips are welcome and if you have meal plans that help.. Like give me a few ideas for suppers to eat.. For breakfast I always eat cheerios.. thats not bad right? & lunch I’ll eat a sandwich like a pb&j or some lunch meat on wheat bread so right there I know I’m not going totally unhealthy…
I thought I had lost a little weight because well, I just felt like I had.. Idk how to explain it but I felt like I had to have lost some.. my stomach seems just a little smaller for some reason but theres still a good bit of fat in that section.

And I don’t snack with the kids.. I think I eat pretty well.. I always eat baked foods over fried I don’t use salt unless it’s just in the food already.. Usual side dishes we eat are like mac and cheese and mashed potatoes or a baked potatoe and green beans and peas.. any of that should be omitted from my diet? I mostly eat red meat.. hardly ever eat white… dont know what that does for me and I don’t like a huge variety of fruit but I do eat alot of grapes…
Oh and when I said I don’t want anyone to just say diet and exercise.. I meant that literally.. Like if that’s your answer then explain.. what kinda diet… what kinda exercise..
Thanks though to the answers so far…

Can an exercise bike help anything?? And keep in mind it’s mainly my mid section I wanna lose.. some off my arms and legs would be fine but not near as much off my mid section.

I’m very skinny and tall and am looking to bulk up. How do I go about doing this?

I’ve always been fairly skinny since I was a kid, and upon puberty, also became very tall. When I moved out after high school, I took on two jobs (one of which was full-time), as well as full-time school (15 hours a week) to support myself. This equated to two days off a month. I did this for two years, and although I have more free-time now, the two years of non-stop working has had an averse effect on my appetite.

When you work that much, you eat when you find time to, and usually what you eat becomes Ramen noodles or microwavable TV dinners. Now, even though I have plenty of time (and higher income) to eat better and more, I find myself just not being hungry. I’ve gone entire days before without eating simply because I haven’t felt hungry.

I’m currently 6’0″ and weight roughly 140-145 lbs, and although I’m healthy, I don’t look healthy, which makes me feel unhealthy. So I want to bulk up to look better and feel better, but I don’t quite know where to begin.

Advice? Tips?

Trying to lose 20 more pounds?

Ok I started off 185lbs (well i didn’t start off there but that’s where i ended up after 2 kids). Started walking on an elliptical and then a treadmill and i’m down to 140. (took 6 months). I want to lose 20 more but i’m stuck. I’ve tried to alternate jogging and walking for 30 minutes almost every day (i some times may skip one day but not usually) but i’m just not losing any more. (my diet and other activity has remained stable). I try to eat chicken; salads; balanced meals; water or ice tea, will an occasional treat. Any trainers out there can give me some tips? (i’m 5’2″ and 47 years old and otherwise healthy). How can i kick start my weight loss again? I have access to some light free weights but i don’t use those (although sometimes while walking I carry little 2lb weights). We have a treadmill and an elliptical.

What do you do if the other pediatricians at your child’s doctor office don’t agree with each others opinions?

I’m sorry I had a difficult time wording this question. My son just turned 2 last week and a couple months ago his doctor left the practice “to pursue other interests.” Luckily our son is very healthy and has only been in twice for a sick visit in which we didnt get to see his usual doctor, but the one on call. Which was fine, but now after just getting back from his appointment I am so distraught. The old doc was ok with his naptime binky habits and evening bottle and was pleased that my son enjoyed eating fish. While he was not talking as much as other kids his age she was reassuring and said to give it time and we would check his progress at 2. Now since she is gone, the new doc was appauled at my son still using the binky and pulled out scissors to clip off the tip right then and there! I stopped her cause my heart couldnt handle it-he was already screaming. She said no bottles, no fish due to mercury content and said the reason my son isnt talking is due to binky. Im so confused.
Both of these doctors were female. I suppose I worded this incorrectly as I am not looking for advice on bottles, binks, and fish – my question is regarding the difference in opinions when these doctors work together and see the same patients. I had no intention of this turning into a battle of those who believe and do not believe in bottle and binkies.

Trouble with maintaining weight (i do not want to lose weight, i want to gain)?

Ever since I was born I have had a really sensitive stomach. I can’t be too nervous or I can’t stomach food. It never used to be such a big deal until I hit adulthood and all that stress piled on. Add that on with five hour long classes that don’t really give us enough time to break for meals, hw and thus lack of sleep+stress and I’ve lost a lot of weight. I commute as well so that lengthens my days to eight hours without a proper full meal. I wish there were some other way to handle this, but as far as I know there isn’t so I’ve gone around not sleeping well, and not eating well at all. Usually I need to be relaxed and be at home or a nice restaurant with friends I’m comfortable with to eat.
I can’t even eat on dates cause I’d be too nervous and usually I have to force myself but its hell afterwards.
Does anybody have any tips as to how I can gain a little more weight or at least maintain it? i’m 5’2, female, and probably around 105 or 100 right now. I know thats a healthy weight for someone my size, but I’m a little sick of hearing “oh you’ve lost so much weight”. Not many people get that it can just be as mentally debilitating as hearing you’re fat, and I would know I was fat at one point in my life.It hurts just as much because in the end you’re told that you aren’t good enough. Anyhow, I was able to get fat cause I was a kid with a lot more relaxed lifestyle, sturdier stomach, and I would just eat drumsticks at 3 am. It doesn’t seem to work so well anymore that way.
But psychologicall damage aside, I would like to maintain my weight as well as for my own preferences. I don’t want to get any skinnier. But how would someone like me, with a sensitive stomach be able to do that? Sometimes all I want to eat are just certain types of foods and if I make myself eat say meat and I didn’t want to then that wouldn’t work out to well in the end.
Any genuine advice and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Also I’m lactose intolerant so I am not able to add dairy into my diet and eggs are generally a problem.

The best ways to lose weight without a program?

I am going into grade 11 and we started out football camp today. We weighed ourselves and I weighed in at around 255 pounds. I am a big person by nature and dont have that much of a gut but I am a very solid kid. I have big legs and butt and am a big kid in general. I would like to drop a few pounds by the end of this season though. Since I have practice everyday, I get alot of excersise and i figure why not try to lose weight. I think I have low metabolism as my weight seems to go up little by little. I dont eat a “healthy” diet, but I eat pretty well. I love fruits, vegetables and things like that. For a big guy I can move pretty well and I am athletic. Can any one give me tips on how to lose weight. Thanks :)

My toddler won’t sleep at all! HELP!?

My little boy will be 2 years old in May. He goes through phases with his sleep patterns. He went through months of sleeping through the night, from 7pm to 7am, then there were phases when he’d wake up just once every night for a cuddle but went straight back to sleep, and very rarely, when he’s not well, he’d wake up and not go back to sleep for a few hours. So I do expect all kinds of things from him, and I’ve always thought that if he didn’t sleep well one week, he would make up for it the following week by sleeping 12 hours. At the end of the day, his body got the rest it needed.

On March 27th we left the UK, via Dubai for 3 days, to attend a wedding in Australia. He actually slept really well despite the jetlag and time difference. My parents live in Dubai and so grandma and grandpa were more than happy to spoil and dote on their grandson. He slept well both in Dubai and then for the 10 days we were in Australia.

We got back to Dubai about 10 days ago, and since then, my son has not slept at all. He seems to survive on 5 hours of sleep per night! He hardly naps, and when he does it’s 30-45mins. He goes down at 8.30pm, (I delayed his bedtime as I thought it might help him sleep in a bit later in the morning), but then he wakes up at 12.30am, every night – he could be on a timer! – stays awake until 5am, but then goes back down until 7am. He started doing this when we first arrived, waking up for 5mins, then it increased to 1 hour, then 2 hours, and now he’s up 5 hours in the night!

What baffles us all is that he doesn’t seem to get tired during the day despite the lack of sleep. He’s so hyper! We take him to the beach, to play groups, to childrens’ play areas, thinking that if we tired him out enough during the day, he’ll finally sleep through the night! Or at the very least, if he did wake up, it would only be for milk ora cuddle and he could go back to sleep. But nothing seems to work. He sleeps in a travel cot that my parents bought for him, with an extra thick mattress, so it’s really comfortable. And back in January when we visited, he slept in that cot perfectly well, and all through the night, so I don’t understand the change now?

We thought that it could be that he’s missing his father. Because of work, my husband had to go back to the UK, so my son and I have been with my parents, and we’re in Dubai until the first week of May. However, after 10 days, I thought he’d be used to it by now?

He’s also no longer eating well either. He can survive on cereal first thing in the morning, yet turns his nose up at everything else! It’s the same food we eat back home too! He won’t even eat a banana (or any other fruit for that matter!) And I don’t think it has anything to do with flavour, because this isn’t our firstr tip to Dubai – in fact it’s our 6th, and he’s always eaten well here. He was also fine with the different foods in Australia.

I don’t know what more I can do. He doesn’t seem unhappy. If being honest, I think he’s happier here than I’ve ever seen him. He’s outdoors a lot more, in the sun, enjoys the beach, swimming, etc… there’s lots to do here for kids, and he’s enjoying every moment – not to mention the endless amounts of attention and love he gets from various family members!

I can’t help but be worried now. Because even though he’s happy and healthy, he’s not sleeping and not eating! Is this normal?!

Thanks for your help.
