Going on a diet to lose weight is normally associated with adults. But with the growing number of obese children in the world, many parents are putting their kids on diets to try and get them to lose some weight. This has to be thought about carefully because they still need all the nutrients and healthy foods to allow their bodies to grow effectively. You cannot just start removing things from their diet because their bodies need it.
So diet food for kids might not be the best option because it generally is low fat or low carb and might not give them the energy they need. Plus they will be missing out on essential vitamins and minerals in some foods that a diet wouldn’t recommend. So it can really be a tricky thing to sort out.
Then of course you have the problem of getting your kid to eat what you prepare for them. They are notoriously picky on the foods they eat and might not want to eat vegetables and fruits in every meal.
The key then is to still have them eating the foods they like but cut down the portion size and add something healthy in each meal. This is the simplest way of getting the nutrients they need, without having to force them to eat foods they don’t like or don’t want.
Here are a couple of examples:
– When putting out their cereal, sprinkle over some nuts, chopped fruit or raisins. They will love the extra taste and they are good for them.
– Make them a milkshake or smoothie with lots of fruits. All kids love milkshakes and it’s a great way to get different fruits into them.
There are many ways to get your child eating healthy foods but one thing to take away from this article is that diet food for kids is not always the best option.
