Research has proved that when kids start the day with breakfast and follow it up with a healthy lunch, they will learn better and be able to concentrate more. By giving them the right fuel, they will be able to be more productive and have more energy. So the best way to raise healthy kids is to make sure they are getting the correct amount of nutrients.
The first thing they are going to need is to eat plenty of protein. Protein helps the muscles and body to grow. The best source for protein is chicken, lean meats and fish. These are quite easy to give to your child as most of them like to eat meat.
Next they are going to need carbs. But not just any old carbs, they will need complex carbs. These give them the energy they need to get them through the day. The best sources are whole grain bread, whole grain cereals and whole wheat pasta. Most kids like to eat sandwiches and breakfast cereals, so again these should be quite easy to introduce if you haven’t already.
Fruits and vegetables should be on the daily menu too. They provide essential vitamins and minerals that the body needs to keep it healthy. They should be eating at least 5 portions a day or either a fruit or vegetable combination. You can include vegetables on their sandwiches or fruits in a dessert. You can also make small snacks with them, so the kids can pick at them between meals.
Lastly, healthy kids need calcium. This helps the teeth and bones to be strong. It is found in milk and cheese and most kids love these, so shouldn’t be difficult in getting them to eat it daily. Just try and choose low fat varieties of both.
