Healthy Eating Habits for Kids

BananasIt is an amazing fact but one out of every three kids in America is overweight. Another staggering fact is that approx 80% of overweight kids will grow up and be overweight as adults too. So it is no wonder why people are starting to take weight loss and nutrition seriously. Healthy eating habits for kids are one way of getting them to cut down on their calorie intake to try and reduce any excess weight that they may put on.

Of course there is not one specific thing that causes kids to be overweight. It is a combination of them eating too much food and not getting enough exercise. It’s too easy for them to sit and play their games consoles for hours on end and not even go out side and play these days. The internet keeps them sat inside too, talking to their friends on instant messenger.

So the first tip for turning things around is to make sure your kid doesn’t skip breakfast. Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day and sets the metabolism going in the body. If they don’t have breakfast then they will be very hungry later on and eat something that isn’t healthy for lunch. Not only that but they will probably eat too much too because their brain will tell the body to eat more.

The next really important thing is to include more fruits and vegetables into their meals. They will provide their bodies will vital vitamins and minerals that they need to grow. They are very low in calories too, so are great as snacks between meals. You can include them in their lunch box and serve them for dessert. Just do all you can to make sure they are eating 5 portions of either a day.
