When understanding how to raise healthy kids, there are two main factors to consider. These are diet and fitness. We’re not saying to put your child on a diet and remove foods that their body’s need, we just mean to make sure they are consuming a diet that contains all the main food groups.
You may think you are buying the right foods already but might be surprised if you actually read the food labels carefully. For instance, whole wheat bread might not be as healthy as you think as many of them contain a high level of fructose corn syrup. Fruit snacks might seem to be healthy but also will contain food dye and preservatives. Peanut butter is healthy right? Well many brands use hydrogenated oils and these aren’t good for the body.
So as you can see, what you think is healthy is not actually that healthy when you look into them even further. So what you must do is to start reading food labels and seeing exactly what is inside each food. This might take a little while at first but once you learn which brands and foods are good, then you will be able to shop in the same time as you do now.
Fitness is the next thing you need to look at. Many kids now do spend most of their free time watching TV or playing video games. This of course means they are getting no exercise. No exercise means they aren’t burning calories and may begin to put on weight. So it is important to get them to do some form of exercise each day. Even if it is just 15 minutes or so every day. Play basketball with them or take the dog for a walk. Anything to get them out of their bedrooms for 15-20 minutes a day.
