As the parent of a growing child, it can be difficult to try and keep them as healthy as they should be. You no doubt have a busy schedule of taking the kids to school and going to work yourself. Then coming home to prepare dinner and maybe having an hour or two to yourself before it all begins again in the morning. So, it can be easy to make the fastest and most convenient dinner for your family rather than the healthiest option. We understand that. But it’s not giving your child the nutrients they need to grow properly, both in body and mind.
So here are some quick and simple kids nutrition tips you can start using today:
#1 – Start moving healthy foods within your kids reach and moving the unhealthy foods out of their reach. Kids are very impatient and if they are hungry they will often just eat the nearest thing they can get their hands on. So make sure you have fruit, vegetables, cheese and crackers in a place where they can get to them. Move the potato chips and chocolate onto a higher shelf in the cupboard.
#2 – Serve them fruits and/or vegetables in every meal. Your kids need at least 5 portions a day of either fruit or vegetables. So be sure to serve at least one portion in every meal. This can be as simple as serving fruit with a low fat yoghurt for dessert.
#3 – Reduce the fat intake of their main meals. Try to avoid making anything fried and wherever possible grill or boil the food. This will make sure they aren’t eating too much fat.
