It lists the types of foods we should be eating and all nutritional values attached to them. Now although this was suited for adults, there was never one designed for kids until 2005. The nutritional pyramid for kids makes it easy for kids to see what they should be eating as it is explained using colours and special patterns that make it easy for them to understand.

It details how much of certain things they should be eating and which types of foods they should be eating too. The use of colours shows them that they need to eat foods of different colours too. Every day they should eat something of a different colour to yesterday. This makes it really easy for them to understand and with the different coloured foods, it means they are getting a variety of nutrients which are essential for their growth and general health.

The nutritional pyramid for kids has been developed by the USDA (US Department of Agriculture) and a lot of research went into making sure it is factual as well as easy for kids to understand. It odes a really good job of teaching kids the importance of eating a variety of foods including lean meats, fish, dairy products, grains, fruits, vegetables and nuts.

It also teaches the importance of regular exercise and how important it is as a parent to set a good example to your kids. Most kids will try to mimic their parents and people around them, so if you eat healthy foods and exercise they have more chance of doing the same thing too. If they pick up these good habits early on in life, they should continue with them until they are adults.
