You are almost certainly aware of the shocking statistics surrounding childhood obesity in the World today. It is increasing all the time and has doubled in the last 20-30 years and doesn’t look like slowing down any time soon. The main problem seems to be that teaching kids good nutrition values seems to have gone out of the window. Many parents just allow their kids to eat whatever they want and don’t even consider what it is doing to their bodies. It’s quite terrible when you think about it.
So your first step as a concerned parent is to learn all you can about the correct nutrition your child should be getting. Because if YOU don’t know, then your kid certainly isn’t going to know. So learn all you can and introduce what you learn into your child’s diet. They might not even realise the change if you don’t mention why you are having different meals.
The next step might be the hardest but is still one of the most important. That is getting your kid to do some exercise. There was once a time when kids would always be outside playing football or basketball and it would be impossible to get them to come inside. These days however is completely the reverse as they have a whole variety of cable TV, games consoles and of course the internet to keep them occupied indoors.
So make it your mission to get them away from the screen and do some exercise with them. Take the dog for walks or go on bike rides. Just do something that ensures they are exercising and burning some calories.
These tips might sound simple but teaching kids good nutrition and making sure they are getting regular exercise is vital for their health and to prevent obesity.
